Puppy Updates...

Sorry I haven't posted anything about the puppies lately. It's been a crazy couple of weeks around here.  I'm so happy to report that all of our boys found wonderful, loving new homes and are all doing great.  This was a first for me because we didn't ship any of our puppies out of state, which meant the puppies all left sooner than I was ready for.  We've really been missing them around here this week.

Here is an update on each puppy.

Copper was the first to go and these three little kids were so excited to get him.  He actually belongs to their Grandma who is retiring at the end of the month and is getting a puppy to help her from getting bored.  But I'm sure these cuties will be visiting him often.  My last update from them was that Copper was adjusting great to his new home and that his new name is Cooper.  Thanks Barbara, we our so glad that Cooper has found such a wonderful new home.

Next to go was Rocky and I wasn't able to get a picture of him with his new owner but this was taken the night before with my little boy.  Rocky found a wonderful new home close by with a sweet lady and her grand-daughter.  Still waiting for an update on how Rocky is doing and on what they decided to call the little sweetie.

Titan found a wonderful new home with a schnauzer pal named Boxi, and six kids to play with.  He's going to be one spoiled puppy! Titan is keeping his name and I'm told he is adjusting great to his new home.  Thanks Jon, Tonia and family for giving him such a fantastic new home.

Coal got to be a special surprise for two adorable kids who didn't know they were getting a puppy.  Coal is doing great and they are loving having a puppy to love and play with.  Coal's new name is Leo.  Thanks Steve, Katie and family.

Rusty was the last puppy to leave and we got to have him by himself for 3 days and he was a perfect angel. Thanks Julio for providing such a great home for our guy.  I haven't heard yet what name they chose for Rusty.

I really do love to get updates on my puppies so I hope all of the new owners will keep me updated.  Our house is a little quite without these guys in it.

Which is best... A boy or a girl puppy?

I found this article online and thought it was very interesting and I find that it perfectly describes the differences between my male and female. I've had lots of calls from people wanting a female, and this is the first time that I haven't had any females in my litter. For breeding purposes I understand that people may be looking for a specific sex but for pet purposes I think this article explains perfectly why a male might be a better choice.

A lot of people think that female dogs are going to make better pets for them. Most requests for new puppies have people asking for a “precious little girl.” Just about everyone believes that male dogs exhibit alpha behaviors like ‘Marking’ and/or ‘Humping’ and they also believe that females are simply more passive and attentive and don’t participate in fighting over dominance.
Nothing could be further from the truth!
In a group of dogs, the females usually dominate the pack, determine pecking order, and who competes to preserve and/or modify that order. The females are, as a result, more independent, stubborn, and protective than their male counterparts. The females are also a lot more intent upon implementing their dominance by taking part in certain alpha behaviors such as humping.
Most dog fights will usually break out between two females. Males, in contrast, are usually more affectionate, enthusiastic, attentive, and more demanding of your attention. Males are very fond of their owners. They also tend to be more committed, reliable and less moody. They are more outgoing, more accepting of other animals, and usually take much quicker to children. Most boys are easily motivated by food, go figure, and praise and are so eager to satisfy that teaching is simple. However, males can be more unfocused during training because of their playful temperaments. No matter what his age, he is more likely to act silly and more puppy-like, always wanting to engage in recreation and games. Male Schnauzers are fun loving and playful until the day they pass on. Most girls tend to be more snobbish or dignified as they age.
Males who have been neutered rarely display secondary sexual actions such as “humping” or ‘”marking” and lifting of its legs. As soon as the testosterone levels fall after neutering, most of these actions, if they existed in the first place, will cease. Some of these males will never even learn to lift their leg to urinate and will pee with all legs on the ground, just like a female. Males who were neutered by 5 months old usually will never raise their leg to urinate.
While females will usually come to you for attention, when she’s had enough, she will go elsewhere. Boys, on the other hand, are constantly waiting for your attention and remain nearby. Females are usually less sidetracked during training, as they are more eager to get it over with and get back to their comfy little spot on the couch. Also, a female will be less likely to wage a battle with you over dominance; however she will be cunning and creative in getting her own way.
The Female also has periods of being “In Heat” until she is spayed. Seasonal heats can be a month long nightmare, not just for her, but for you and every male dog in the vicinity! Seasonal heats will usually happen twice a year? Females, in general, are much more prone to mood swings. One day she will be the most sweet and affectionate dog in the world, while the next day she’ll be snobbish or withdrawn or even cranky and irritable.
If you are not breeding your dog, you are going to want to have her spayed since during this time, she can put down a bloody discharge on carpets, couches, or anywhere else she goes. She will most likely also be particularly moody and temperamental during this time. A typical walk outside during this period can become perilous if male dogs are in the area, and she will leave a scent for wandering intact males to track right to your yard, where they will hang out, and look for your female for days. Research has shown that a female that is not bred during a heat cycle maintains very high estrogen levels, which may very well be why females are more moody than males. Males generally cost half the price to be neutered as a female does to be spayed.
So, before you decide on that age old dilemma of getting a male or a female, take all these things into consideration. Talk to your breeder about what you are looking for in a pet for your family. A reputable breeder will have no problems discussing this with you and they know the puppies better than anyone. They can help you decide which puppy’s personality and gender is best for you, your family and exactly what you are looking for.

5 Weeks Old!

Here they are, can't believe they are 5 weeks old!! They were so cute with their haircuts and their bandanas out in the dandelions.

First Haircut

The puppies got their first haircuts this morning and they all did so good!! The groomer took these pictures today after she was done all curled up in their basket. They had an eventful day and were pretty tuckered out when they got home.

Nothing cuter than little boys and puppies. Rocky was the first one done with his bath tonight and enjoyed some snuggle time with my sick little boy.  He is going to be so sad to see these guys go.

Bathtime!!

The boys had their first bath today and they did so good!! They all handled the bath and the blow dryer like old pros.  I love fluffy, clean, cuddly puppies.

Coal, didn't mind the water or the blow dryer at all in fact he seemed to kind of like the water.  He has a really nice thick coat.

Copper, was just like his daddy, and really seemed to enjoy the blow dryer and its a good thing because with all his hair he took the longest to dry. He also seems to have got his daddies wonderful super mega coat. 

Rocky's little muzzle is so cute... something about the Liver Pepper that just makes their little faces irresistible. Could just eat him up!!

Rusty did great with his first bath too.  He was a little hard to take pictures of after though because he was so curious about my camera.  Love his little face.

Titan didn't mind his pampering at all.  He loves to be held like a baby and will even sleep like that. This boy has a gorgeous coat and very striking markings.  He's also a playful little guy!
These boys are going to have a big week... They are five weeks old today, will be getting their first haircuts tomorrow and will be ready for their new homes next weekend.  Check back often because their should be lots of new blog posts this week.

Puppy Play Dates.

The puppies are really starting to enjoy playing outside and since the weather was so nice today they were able to spend a couple of hours outside.
